Apple removes 39,000 games from China AppStore

Apple removed over 46,000 apps from China App Store today out of which 39,000 apps were games. The intention to take down the apps was lacking an official license from local regulators. Initially, June 30 was the deadline to provide an app license from the local regulators. Later the deadline was extended to December 31.

According to the research firm Qimai, only 74 of the top 1,500 paid games on the China App Store survived the purge. And more than 46,000 apps were removed which includes 39,000 game apps from its App Store.

The game purge also affects some of the giants like Ubisoft‘s Assassin’s Creed Identity and NBA 2K20 according to Qimai. While the move could be to be on good terms with regulators of China who hunt unlicensed content.

Apple reportedly warned several developers of app removal in July month, If their apps didn’t meet regulatory requirements. The removal of apps lacking official licenses is said to come from increasing government pressure on Apple to comply with local regulations.
