Mahindra made the global debut of XUV 700 on August 14th. XUV 700 is the spiritual successor to the XUV 500, but what came shocking to everyone was the pricing with a mind-blowing introductory offer of just Rs 11.99Lakh (ex-showroom) making it the cheapest SUV in the segment with the high end features its offering for the price.

Like the Thar, the XUV700 is offered in two broad trims: MX (with petrol and diesel)and AX AdrenoX (petrol only) are available on sale as a 5-seater SUV. More variants with 7-seater options and all-wheel drive will be available in the future.

The XUV700 was originally designed as the next-generation XUV500, though Mahindra later decided to reposition the model due to its massively expanding SUV portfolio. The XUV500 nameplate will return in 2024 as per industry sources.

Mahindra’s decision to expand its SUV range is pretty obvious, as they intend to play to their strength in a market that has seen tremendous, sustained growth in the segment. To that extent, Mahindra has even introduced a new logo that will be worn exclusively by its SUV range, with the XUV700 being the first model.

Mahindra XUV 700 Exterior:

Let’s start with the exterior design. At the front, the main thing that catches your eye is Mahindra’s new ‘Twin Peaks’ logo that debuts in the XUV700. The slatted grille is now sleeker, flanked by LED headlamps with cool C-shaped DRLs featuring sequential turn indicators. The bumper design is much more simplistic and it houses the LED fog lamps. You will also notice the typical kink (similar to the XUV500) above the rear wheel arches. Design highlights like the five dual-spoke alloy wheels, the subtle body cladding and roof rails accentuate the SUV look.

The rear-end is more angular in contrast to the XUV500. Design highlights include arrow-styled split-LED tail lamps and a minimalistic bumper with silver cladding.

Mahindra XUV 700 Interior:

The interior design consists of a dual 10.25-inch screen comprising the digital driver’s display and infotainment system that lends a premium feel to the cabin. It runs on Mahindra’s new AdrenoX UI and gets a host of premium features. The SUV can be had either as a 5-seater or a 7-seater with bench seats for middle row occupants.

The infotainment system uses the brand’s newly developed AdrenoX interface with an in-built Amazon Alexa virtual assistant for carrying out a variety of voice commands. Mahindra has also packed the XUV700 with a host of other features, including wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, wireless charger, panoramic sunroof, auto booster headlights, dual-zone automatic climate control, air purifier, leatherette upholstery, powered driver’s seat with memory, and keyless entry with push-button start and dashboard inserts, an electronic parking brake, and a custom-built 12 speaker setup – including a subwoofer – with 3D surround sound that has been designed by Sony.

Mahindra XUV 700 Safety Features:

Passenger safety is taken care of by seven airbags, ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems). It includes Forward Collision Warning (FCW) – which warns you of a possible collision and if you don’t react, it uses Autonomous Emergency Brakes (AEB) to stop the car. Other features include lane departure warning, lane keeps assist, adaptive cruise control, smart pilot assist, traffic sign recognition and driver drowsiness detection, ABS with EBD, a 360-degree camera, electronic stability control, front and rear parking sensors and a tyre pressure monitoring system.

Mahindra XUV 700 Engine & Gearbox:

Under the hood, XUV700 comes with either a petrol or diesel powertrain. The 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, turbo-petrol Mahindra mStallion unit is tuned to produce 200hp and 380Nm. On the other hand, the diesel is a 2.2-litre, four-cylinder mHawk turbocharged unit that will come in two states of tune. The lower state unit (reserved for the entry-level version) will produce 155hp and 360Nm, while the unit in higher variants will churn out 185hp and 420Nm (450Nm with the automatic gearbox). The diesel engine also comes with four drive modes – Zip, Zap, Zoom and Custom – that are claimed to alter performance and steering response.
