Chinese tech giant Xiaomi has filed a patent for a “Method and Equipment for Realizing Seismic Monitoring of Mobile Devices,” with the number CN113406696

The patent offers a method for reading and monitoring seismic activity from a mobile device. According to Xiaomi, this technology would be used to detect earthquakes. The ‘Mobile gadget’ would be used to convey vital data to an earthquake processing centre.

The technique is tied to monitoring seismic activity using smartphone equipment and could, according to reports, allow consumers to detect an earthquake using their phones. The technology might be used in conjunction with Xiaomi’s existing MIUI earthquake warning system, which, as of May 2021, had successfully alerted around 35 earthquakes (magnitude 4.0 and higher) in China.

The process and its operation were also specified in the patent. Standardizing the virtual seismic sensor and designating the register that maps to the virtual seismic sensor are two of the methods mentioned in the patent. Furthermore, allowing the underlying CPU to detect possible earthquakes and calculate important earthquake data.

In addition, the bottom layer processor must be configured to write the key seismic data into the register. The primary processor is also set up to send important seismic information to the seismic processing centre.

Xiaomi also claimed a few months ago that this technology will not only reduce the cost of earthquake monitoring but also considerably increase the number of earthquake monitoring stations. This, according to the business, completes the countrywide seismic monitoring and early warning network. Xiaomi previously stated that users of the MIUI system can join the earthquake monitoring and volunteer by opening the mobile phone manager and clicking on the “earthquake warning” function.

This patent was submitted with the CNIPA by the firm (China National Intellectual Property Administration). “Support Structure of Flexible Screen, Flexible Screen Structure, and Terminal Equipment” is the title of this patent.

The design features two supporting structures for the flexible display panel, according to the specifications.

Deformable is the second structure, which is near to the screen. As a result, when the device is closed, the display is less likely to be harmed by a greater crease over time.
