What is the IP rating for Smartphones?

IP rating

IP (Ingress Protection ) codes is an IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) standard that provides complete details on the degree of protection to electrical components such as smartphones, smartwatches, earbuds and many more. These IP codes were developed to rate the electrical device when exposed to solids and water.

Numerous of the new generation electronic component is certified with IP codes which have to be known to the consumers. A manufacturer may promote a product as “safe” or “waterproof,” but when you’re preferring electrical components for use in vehicles or mobile equipment, you need the dedicated data that an IP rating provides.

Reading from left to right IP stands for Ingress Protection and the first numerical refers to the degree of protection from solids objects and dust whereas the second numerical refers to the degree of protection from water.

For example, if your smartphone or any electrical gadget is rated IP68, that means complete protection from dust and is completely waterproof.
