A couple of weeks ago, Apple unveiled its iPhone 13 series with the iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Pro, and iPhone 13 Pro Max. As usual, the company brought its high-level, expensive and over-produced online event to showcase the new iPhones. Also, as usual, we didn’t see many technical aspects of the handset. That is a common behaviour for Apple for aeons, as the company does not talk much about the numbers in its smartphones. Shortly after the release, we’re starting to see the hardware specs of the new phones being confirmed. Today, we have some details about the iPhone 13 Pro Max cameras.

The latest information comes straight from a Chinese enthusiast that had access to technical aspects of the iPhone 13 Pro Max camera. According to him, all three cameras in the super-premium smartphone have new Sony IMX 7-series sensors behind them. Meanwhile, the ToF and front-facing camera inherited the sensors of the iPhone 12 Pro Max. The main camera has a 26 mm focal length equivalent, f/1.5 aperture, and a 1.9 um pixel size. There is also a sensor-shift OIS and a 7P (seven elements) lens in the front.

The ultrawide camera boasts a 12 MP resolution and has a focal length of 13 mm on and an f/1.8 aperture of its 6P lens. The most notable upgrade is the addition of autofocus. The final and third sensor, the 12 MP telephoto, has a 77mm focal length. This allows the module to deliver 3x zoom. Furthermore, it comes with a 6P lens with Optical Image Stabilization. However, it falls behind its siblings with an f/2.8 aperture. Depending on the scene, you can now leverage night mode on this one to more than makeup for that.
The Main camera is a Sony IMX703 module, the ultrawide snapper is a Sony IMX772, and the third and final sensor is a Sony IMX713. Worth noting that Sony names its sensors sequentially, so reading the name isn’t enough to provide you with information. The technical aspects are more important.

The new iPhone 13 Pro Max brings incremental upgrades for photography. The improvements are here but these certainly aren’t the most ground-breaking ones. We expect further improvements to come with the iPhone 14 series. The 14 series will put the iPhone through a major overhaul, finally ditching the notch in the display.
