Tata Nexon.ev Facelift Unveiled: A Closer Look at the Electric SUV’s Upgrades

NEXON.EV

Tata Motors has unveiled the facelifted Nexon.ev, and it’s packed with exciting changes compared to the ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) versions of the Nexon. Scheduled for launch on September 14, this EV receives its first mid-life cycle update, promising a fresh experience for electric vehicle enthusiasts.

Distinctive Exterior Design

The Nexon.ev’s exterior design takes inspiration from the Curvv concept, but what sets it apart is its unique identity. Notable changes include a body-colored upper grille, which contrasts with the ICE versions featuring a black finish. The trapezoidal headlamp housings and lower grille also sport a fresh slatted design. Most strikingly, the Nexon.ev boasts a full-width LED light band on the front that doubles as a functional charging status indicator. The EV proudly displays ‘.ev’ badges.

From the side profile, the Nexon EV remains unchanged, but it gets redesigned alloy wheels, identical to the ICE variants. At the rear, it closely resembles the ICE version with its connected LED taillights and a chunky, body-colored bumper with black and silver accents.

Tata claims that these design tweaks enhance aerodynamics and contribute to improved range, which is always a plus for electric vehicles.

Tech-Savvy Interior

Inside, the Nexon EV facelift offers a familiar yet updated interior. The dashboard features a layered design with various textures and materials, including carbon fiber-like trim, soft-touch surfaces, and glossy piano black finishes.

The highlights include a class-leading 12.3-inch touchscreen display with a new user interface, a two-spoke illuminated steering wheel, a customizable 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, and touch-based HVAC controls with toggle switches. The high-resolution graphics on the screens and slick touch-based climate controls create a futuristic, minimalistic cabin.

Top-spec Nexon EV variants come equipped with a plethora of features, including a 360-degree camera, connected car technology, a wireless charger, ventilated front seats, an air purifier, a JBL-branded sound system, and more. Safety is a priority, with six airbags as standard, along with various driver-assist features.

Revamped Powertrain

Tata Motors has simplified the variant naming by using Medium Range (MR) and Long Range (LR) to differentiate between the two Nexon.ev options. The MR retains the 30kWh battery, while the LR boasts a larger 40.5kWh battery. Both versions now come with a 7.2kW AC charger as standard.

NEXON EV

The Nexon.ev features a new Gen-2 permanent magnet synchronous motor that is lighter, uses fewer rare earth materials, and offers improved cooling and efficiency. Thanks to enhanced aerodynamics, the range has increased by 2 percent. It can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.9 seconds and reach a top speed of 150 km/h.

The MR variant produces 127hp and 215Nm of torque, while the LR version generates 143hp and 215Nm. Despite the changes, both remain capable electric powertrains.

Variety of Trims

Tata offers three core trims, described as ‘Personas,’ for the MR and LR variants: Creative, Fearless, and Empowered. Each comes with its own set of customizable elements, allowing buyers to tailor their Nexon.ev to their preferences.

Price and Competition

As for the price, the Nexon EV facelift is expected to come with a premium over the outgoing model due to its advanced technology and features. For reference, the previous Nexon EV ranged from Rs 14.49-19.54 lakh (ex-showroom).

In this segment, the Nexon.ev primarily competes with the Mahindra XUV400 EV, offering potential buyers a choice in the electric SUV market.

With its refreshed design, tech-savvy interior, and improved powertrain, the Nexon.ev facelift appears poised to make a strong impression in the world of electric vehicles. Stay tuned for the official price announcement on September 14 and the start of bookings on September 9.
