Bluetooth on Android smartphones and Windows 10 devices has been shown to be a weak link in a new collection of vulnerabilities.
Bluetooth is used in a wide range of devices, from speakers to pacemakers, so Bluetooth-related vulnerabilities can affect a wide range of devices. A fresh wave of 12 Bluetooth flaws has been identified, potentially exposing over 480 gadgets to attack, including fitness trackers, smart locks, and dozens of medical instruments and implants
Commercial Bluetooth stacks include new security flaws that could allow an adversary to execute arbitrary code or, worse, crash the devices via denial-of-service (DoS) attacks.

It’s known as ‘BrakTooth‘ (from the Norwegian word ‘Brak,’ which means ‘crash’). According to sources, the defect has been discovered in many microprocessors used by some of the world’s most well-known technology companies.
According to the experts, the vulnerability affects over one billion Bluetooth-enabled gadgets.
Researchers from the Automated Systems Security (ASSET) Research Group at the Singapore University of Technology and Design revealed their weaknesses (SUTD).
There are a total of 16 Bluetooth vulnerabilities mentioned by the researchers. The 16 security flaws affect 13 Bluetooth chips from 11 different vendors, including Intel, Qualcomm, Zhuhai Jieli Technology, and Texas Instruments, and affect over 1,400 commercial products, including laptops, smartphones, programmable logic controllers, and Internet of Things devices.

The security flaw, according to the study, affects a wide range of smartphones and computers that utilise Bluetooth to connect to external devices such as headphones, speakers, mouse, and keyboards.
The security flaw, according to the study, affects a wide range of smartphones and computers that utilise Bluetooth to connect to external devices such as headphones, speakers, mouse, and keyboards. According to the research paper, the potential damage to a device caused by BrakTooth is highly dependent on the type of device and the chipset it employs.

Some of the devices are less vulnerable, and can only be attacked by sending a specialised packet to the faulty chipset, which can usually be rectified by restarting the computer. However, a Bluetooth Classic hole in some chipsets can allow hackers to run malicious code from afar, even allowing them to access sensitive data.
A Bluetooth Classic weakness in some chipsets, on the other hand, can allow hackers to run malicious code from afar and even remotely install malware on the targeted devices. To exploit the vulnerabilities, the threat maker will most likely need to be within range of a Bluetooth device that has Bluetooth turned on. When not in use, smartphone and laptop users can reduce the danger of such assaults by turning off Bluetooth on their devices.
