Mahindra has unveiled the Thar EV concept, a battery-powered version of its popular Thar off-roader. The concept car is based on a customized INGLO-P1 platform, which has been modified to accommodate the Thar’s boxy design and off-road capabilities.
Thar EV Design
The Thar EV concept features a number of design changes that set it apart from the ICE version. The front end has a closed grille with “Thar.e” badging and three vertically stacked LED DRLs. The headlamps are also square-shaped, and the wheel arches are squared off. The rear end features a spare tire mounted on the tailgate, square LED taillights, and a grey-colored rear bumper.
Off-Road
The Thar EV concept has been revised to improve its off-road capabilities. The ground clearance has been increased to 250-300mm, the front overhang has been reduced to 640-680mm, and the rear overhang has been increased to 680-740mm. The wheelbase has also been increased to between 2,775mm and 2,975mm.
The interior of the Thar EV concept is also different from the ICE version. The second row now has a bench seat instead of the captain seats, and the center console is beefier with a large touchscreen infotainment system. There are also grab handles on either side of the dashboard, a new fully digital instrument cluster, and a multifunction steering wheel with a screen and the Thar.e logo.
Battery And Power
The TharEV concept is expected to be powered by a 60kWh battery pack and has a range of around 250km. It will also have a 4WD system with a motor on each axle.
The Thar EV concept is a significant step forward for Mahindra, as it is the company’s first electric off-roader. The concept car has been well-received by critics, and it is expected to be launched in India in 2024.
