It’s possible that Whatsapp will no longer provide unlimited Drive backups!

For WhatsApp users, Google is expected to cease unlimited backups.

In 2018, WhatsApp announced a partnership with Google to provide users with unlimited chat backups. According to a new rumour, WhatsApp users may lose the ability to save their old chat history and multimedia files to cloud storage.

According to the developer community site WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is going to release a solution that will allow users to delete undesirable media content from Google Drive as well as shrink (compress) old files.

WhatsApp recently submitted a new beta version 2.21.21.7 to the Google Play Beta programme. The company has added a new option in this edition that allows consumers to customise the backup size. It can exclude specific types of media from a backup that isn’t required.

It’s worth noting that neither WhatsApp nor Google has made an official announcement about the termination of unlimited chat history backup storage. The launch of the facility by WhatsApp does imply, however, that it is likely to happen sooner or later, considering how Google ended limitless photos again in 2021.

In May of this year, Google eliminated the unlimited storage option for Photos on Android and iOS phones. The company released a new tool a month before the deadline (June 1, 2021) that could identify blurry photos, pointless screenshots, and huge movies, allowing customers to discard them and make room for new, higher-quality images. It has also added a tool that estimates how many years (or months/days) remain before the 15GB storage space is used up. These apps aided users in managing their Google Drive multimedia files.

Many users now believe that WhatsApp’s future tool will allow them to eliminate unnecessary content and keep only the most important information.

iPhone owners do not have similar advantages when it comes to iCloud. They only get 5GB of storage, and anyone who needs more must pay a monthly price.
