The Rugged G1 and G1+ electric scooters, designed specifically for the Indian market, were presented in the second half of August this year by an Indian startup e-bike. The electric motorcycles are not only built to survive the harsh Indian terrain, but they also contribute to the government’s goal of making the electric two-wheeler sector more sustainable.
While the e-scooters have yet to leave the factory, the business has already begun taking reservations for the robust bikes. The Indian company has recently revealed that it has received up to 100,000 (1 lakh) cash reservations for electric bikes. This is claimed to have resulted in a revenue of over 1,000 crores. As a reminder, the motorcycles are relatively inexpensive thanks to India’s electric vehicle incentive programme. The G1 is priced at Rs. 79,999 ($1,079) for the base model and Rs. 89,999 ($1,214) for the G1+.
Rugged is propelled by a 3kW motor capable of reaching speeds of up to 70 kilometres per hour. It includes a 2×2 kWh battery that can be swapped out. The batteries have a range of 160 kilometres and take 3.5 hours to charge. It has a storage capacity of 30 litres.
During this time, the business also finalised Rugged master franchises in the states of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Maharashtra, according to the company.
It has also finalised 22 dealership stores in UP, Mumbai, and Bihar, as well as a cost and freight agency, according to the business. Tier-2 cities and rural areas have accounted for as much as 67% of these bookings.
eBikeGo is eyeing many other states for the franchise, with ten more in the pipeline, including Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Delhi, according to the business.
“We at eBikeGo received an outstanding response to our most anticipated bike, the Rugged, and closed over 1 lakh bookings with 22 dealerships throughout the country within two months of its launch.” This is a huge number for any electric two-wheeler manufacturer, especially in a developing country like India “eBikeGo’s founder and CEO, Irfan Khan, stated.
“A number of foreign private equity funds are also in advanced talks with us.” We anticipate 50,000 additional ‘Rugged’ bookings totalling 500 crores in the coming months “Khan stated.
Amazon, Bigbasket, Delhivery, Zomato, and other food delivery and retail companies have indicated an interest in the company’s e-moto-scooter and have signed on as major B2B clients.
eBikeGo has also partnered with physical financial services platform mBnk to launch Rugged in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar in the last two months, according to the business, which has received reservations from across India.
The Rugged comes in four colours: red, blue, black, and a Diwali-themed Rugged Special Edition.
