How to delete your Facebook account permanently

It’s a good idea to deactivate or delete your account when you stop using a social networking profile or website. This means that your material will no longer be displayed online and will no longer be searchable. It also eliminates the possibility of these accounts being hacked or utilised by others without your knowledge.

This blog explains how to deactivate or remove your accounts, as well as what these alternatives entail.

You can choose between deactivating and deleting your Facebook account.

If you deactivate your account, these can be done :

  • You have the option to reactivate it at any time. This means you’ll be able to access your images, videos, friends, and groups once more.
  • Unless you reactivate your account, no one can see your timeline or locate it in a search.
  • Some items may be seen (for example: private messages you have sent).

By entering back into Facebook or using your Facebook account to log in someplace else, you can reactivate your account at any time. To complete the reactivation, you’ll need access to the email or cell number you used to check-in.

To deactivate your account:

  • Click in the top right of Facebook. Select Settings & Privacy > Settings.
  • Click Your Facebook Information in the left column.
  • Click Deactivation and Deletion.
  • Choose Deactivate Account, then Continue to Account Deactivation and follow the instructions to confirm.

When your Facebook account is disabled but Messenger is still active:

  • You can still use Messenger to communicate with your pals
  • In Messenger discussions, your Facebook profile image will still be accessible.
  • Others can use Messanger to find you and send you a message.

If you remove your account, the following will happen:

  • Your account will not be able to be reactivated.
  • You will have 30 days to cancel the deletion of your account; after that, you will be unable to access or retrieve any information from it.
  • Everything you’ve added to your profile, including photographs, videos, and other media, will be permanently removed.
  • You won’t be able to use Facebook Messenger any more.
  • You won’t be able to use your Facebook login for other apps like Spotify or Instagram that you may have signed up for with your Facebook account.

To retrieve those accounts, you may need to contact the apps and websites.

After you delete your account, some information, such as messages you sent to friends, may still be visible to them. Your friends’ inboxes contain copies of the communications you’ve sent.

If you change your mind, Facebook provides you with 30 days to reconsider your decision and cancel the deletion procedure. After that time limit has expired, your account and all associated data will be permanently deleted. Keep in mind that all of your information may take up to 90 days to be permanently destroyed.

To delete your account:

  • Click in the top right of Facebook. Select Settings & Privacy > Settings.
  • Click Your Facebook Information in the left column.
  • Click Deactivation and Deletion.
  • Choose Permanently Delete Account then click  Continue to Account Deletion.
  • Click Delete Account, enter your password and then click Continue.

Before you remove your account, consider the following.

  • If you want a copy of your data, make a backup.
  • App permissions should be revoked.
  • Delete the Facebook apps from your mobile devices.

Consider writing a deleting obituary to inform your friends of your passing. It’s simple to see which apps rely on your Facebook account after revoking permissions. These can then be corrected to prevent future access problems.

Regardless of how hard you try, some personally identifying data may remain. This could be as basic as your name appearing in a message.

You have very little control over what others say about you in the future. The best you can hope for is that your pals respect your privacy.
