Google play store: New Malware hub

The new research was carried out by NortonLifeLock and the IMDEA Software Institute. It has found that 67 % of the malicious app installs came from Google Play. Thus became the contributor of malware on Android smartphones. However, reporters say that a huge volume of download from the play store leads to this disaster.

To conclude these reporters did a data survey on 7.9 million apps from 12 million android devices. Data survey was conducted over 4 months in 2019. The data report also states that a third-party app’s installation caused only a 10% malicious software installation.

How can we avoid malware apps?

  • Check your app security status
  • Turn Google Play Protect on
  • Don’t sideload applications
  • Only install what you have to use
  • Stick With Official Apps
  • Avoid Third-Party App Stores
  • Don’t Install Pirated Apps
  • Make Sure You’re Installing Official Apps, Even When Using Google Play
  • Regularly check updates for the Android system and update it.
