Google is reportedly planning to buy ShareChat for $1.03 billion

ShareChat is an Indian social media startup with more than 160 million monthly active users with support to 14 Indic languages. ShareChat’s Moj is a short-video sharing platform that was launched on June 29, 2020. Now, it has more than 80 million monthly active users.

Over the past few months, ShareChat’s monthly active users rose from 60 million to 160 million while the average daily time spent rose from 24 minutes to 31 minutes. The company’s co-founder and CTO Bhanu Pratap Singh had told Inc42.

In July 2020, Google‘s CEO Sundar Pichai announced that Google will be investing $10 billion in India over the next 5-7 years under the ‘Google for India Digitization Fund’. ShareChat can provide Google entry in India’s social space. Which Google lacks, Especially in a huge Internet user base like India.

According to the reports ShareChat could be valued at around $1.03 billion. And the founders may retain a small stake in the company. Reports suggested that ShareChat was last valued at $650 million. Whereas both the companies denied commenting on the reports.
