Global NCAP has revealed the procedure for testing cars

Vehicle safety awareness is quickly increasing among Indian car enthusiasts these days. People in the country were not concerned about it until recently, and cars did not have airbags. However, as time passes, they are becoming more aware of automotive safety, and Global NCAP is the driving force behind this awareness. Crash tests and accompanying Global NCAP ratings have aided in raising awareness. Due to video documentation of crash testing and assessment of safety elements, buyers have a better knowledge of the importance of automotive safety.

When it comes to the GNCAP’s working procedure, you’re bound to have some inquiries. Some users, for example, have questioned whether NCAP is selective in its crash testing methodology.

Global NCAP has disclosed the entire procedure of how autos are purchased for testing under the Voluntary Test Procedure to promote transparency. The car is chosen by Global NCAP to avoid any OEM influence. If the car is already on the market, it is purchased from any dealership anonymously.

Furthermore, if the car has been built but not yet released, they choose it at random from any plant. This selection is taken in such a way that no one-of-a-kind automotive series is produced. The crash test is conducted in the presence of a company representative to assure impartiality. Crash testing is followed by a technical evaluation.

Although a vehicle cannot fail the GNCAP crash test in and of itself, the GNCAP utilises a star rating to indicate a vehicle’s performance on the test. These are 5-star ratings; the greater the star rating, the safer the car is, and vice versa. This starting rating is based on protection scores measured for both adult and kid occupants, which are duplicated using crash test dummies.

The 17-point Adult Occupant Protection Score considers injuries to the occupant’s head and neck, femur and pelvis, chest and knee, and leg and foot. The existence of critical safety elements on-board earns extra points.

The 49-point Child Occupant Protection score, on the other hand, is based on readings from dummies that represent 18-month to 3-year-old youngsters in OEM-recommended child seats. Additional points are awarded for features like ISOFIX, three-point seatbelts, and other safety features. A vehicle’s star ratings are determined by a combination of adult and child occupant protection scores.

After that, reports are written and sent to the manufacturer. After that, the manufacturer is invited to a meeting with Global NCAP to discuss the crash test results.

The reports are then distributed through Global NCAP‘s various communication channels. During crash testing, cars are destroyed. There are many other types of testing units, such as frontal impact, side-impact, and so on. A separate cost is the cost of crash test equipment, which includes both hardware and software. After the crash testing is done, Global NCAP sends the invoice to the manufacturer.

The invoice breaks down all of the expenses related to the crash testing. The manufacturer then reimburses these costs. When the payment is not voluntary, however, it is not stated who makes the payment.
