Last month we heard that Apple and Hyundai are planning to work on an electric car by partnering with each other. More recently, we saw reports stating the iPhone marker will be working with Kia, Hyundai’s sister firm for the rumoured Apple Car

Apple has allegedly taken on Manfred Harrer, the head of Porsche’s Cayenne and chassis development boss, sources of Business Insider claim. It is unclear what role Harrer will take, but it is thought he would be involved in creating the chassis for the vehicle.

Harrer was formerly an engineer at Audi, then joined BMW to become an expert in steering, before moving to Porsche. By 2016, he was in command of overall chassis development at the car producer and was promoted to Cayenne series manager months before his departure. There has yet to be any announcement of Harrer’s move, with his LinkedIn showing his continued employment at Porsche, but he was said to have said goodbyes to colleagues at the end of 2020.

As reported by Bloomberg last month, Apple will take at least 5 – 6 more years to launch an electric vehicle as the development work is still at an early stage. It adds that Apple has a small team of hardware engineers developing drive systems, vehicle interior, and external car body designs to eventually assemble a vehicle.

Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo stated that Apple Car could launch between 2025-2028 at the earliest. He also pointed out that it was too early to talk about the final specifications as the nature of tech specifications were still evolving.
