This comes only two days after the DRDO successfully test-fired the Agni 5 surface-to-surface ballistic missile from Odisha’s APJ Abdul Kalam Island.
The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Indian Air Force (IAF) successfully flight-tested an “indigenously” built Long Range Bomb from an airborne platform on Friday, in a major step toward making India’s defence sector “atmanirbhar.”
“After being launched from an IAF fighter aircraft, the Long Range Bomb was guided to a land-based target at a long-range with precision within set parameters. All of the mission’s goals were completed successfully “According to news agency ANI, the DRDO said in a statement

This comes only two days after the DRDO successfully tested the Agni-5 surface-to-surface ballistic missile from Odisha’s APJ Abdul Kalam Island. The missile, which employs a three-stage solid-fuelled engine, is capable of attacking targets at ranges up to 5,000 kilometres with a high degree of accuracy, according to a statement from the Union Defence Ministry.
The DRDO and Bharat Dynamics Ltd created the Agni-5, which weighs close to 50,000 kg. It stands 1.75 metres tall and has a 2-metre diameter. Its 1,500-kilogramme warhead will be stacked on top of solid-fuel-powered three-stage rocket boosters.
Furthermore, the ministry stated that the LR bomb was guided to a land-based target at a considerable range ‘with accuracy within specified parameters’ after being fired by an IAF fighter aircraft. During the test flight, all of the mission’s objectives were met, according to the ministry.
‘The mission’s goals were all met satisfactorily. ‘A number of range sensors, including the Electro-Optical Tracking System (EOTS), Telemetry, and radar deployed by the Integrated Test Range, Chandipur in Odisha, observed the bomb’s flight and performance,’ according to the ministry.
The bomb was planned and produced in collaboration with other DRDO facilities by the Research Centre Imarat (RCI), a DRDO facility in Hyderabad, Telangana. The RCI lab is active in avionics system research and development (R&D).
Meanwhile, Rajnath Singh, the Union defence minister, has congratulated the DRDO, the IAF, and the other teams engaged in the trial flight, according to the ministry. According to Singh, the achievement will serve as a “force multiplier” for the Indian Armed Forces.
The successful test flight of the indigenously developed LR Bomb has marked a key milestone in the indigenous development, according to G Satheesh Reddy, head of the DRDO.
