Apple is very known for slowly adapting to market changes. iPhone X is the first-ever iPhone to have an OLED display which was launched in 2017. Whereas other brands have been using it for many years. Several smartphone manufacturers like Huawei, Samsung, Xiaomi, among others have released their foldable devices over the past few years.

However, there is a report from MacRumors that Apple is testing its first-ever foldable iPhone. The testing involves evaluating the use of OLED or Micro-LED display technology. If the company opts for the microLED panel, this could be a drastic change in the folding device’s manufacturing processes. It is because a microLED is an emerging display technology that offers higher brightness, saturation, and power efficiency.

These are the Foldable phone patents filed by Apple in the past few years. Some rumors suggested that Apple is working on a foldable iPhone in 2016. The first patent in early 2019 showed designs for a foldable iPhone with a single display that folds in on itself. And other patent showed us the two folding points. And another patent showed a device with two individual displays.

Earlier rumors suggested that the foldable iPhone will be ready by 2020. But this time rumors are about Apple is testing the device. Apple is reportedly gearing up to launch the foldable iPhone around September 2022.
