Though this type of scam is uncommon on large e-commerce platforms such as Flipkart and Amazon, some customers have received the incorrect product.
We’ve heard a lot of stories of online frauds that took place on e-commerce sites in the past, where the user received things that were completely different from what they expected. Some people have even gotten cheap goods by paying a large sum of money on shady websites.
An incident like this recently occurred with a Flipkart customer. According to Gizmochina, a man who ordered an Apple iPhone 12 for 51,999 from Flipkart during the Big Billion Days Sale received soap bars instead of the high-end phone.
Simranpal Singh, who went by the name Simranpal Singh, placed an order for an iPhone 12 and chose Open Box Delivery. As a result, when he received the product, instead of the iPhone, he discovered soap bars inside the package and refused to accept the delivery. He also didn’t provide the delivery person with the OTP, which could have shown that the delivery was successful. OTPs are typically used to verify a user’s identification.
He then contacted Flipkart Support and informed them of the event, requesting that they cancel his order and refund his money. The company, however, notified him that the item was still marked as ‘out for delivery,’ and hence the cancellation was not possible. After the order’s status changes to something else, they will cancel it. Flipkart then promised to call back, and their representative left the botched delivery with the customer.
However, the delivery guy asked the OTP again after some time, which is strange because he had already requested that the order be cancelled and Flipkart had all the information they needed to clear things up on their end. As a result, he is not required to furnish any information.
He then contacted Flipkart support again, who advised him not to reveal any information to the delivery agents. Despite this, Flipkart eventually cancelled the order and issued a refund a few days later.
