Apple today announced that Mighty Bear Games’ “Disney Melee Mania” will join the over 200 very enjoyable games available on Apple Arcade, the company’s popular gaming subscription service
If you’ve wished for the day when Disney will wake up and see the enormous potential of its own version of Nintendo’s Super Smash Bros. fighting game, that day has yet to arrive. With Disney Melee Mania, an Apple Arcade exclusive coming this December, Disney may have just taken a step toward that future.
While we’ve just seen the game’s Twitter account (below) and Apple’s press release today, it involves Disney and Pixar characters like Elsa, Moana, and Buzz Lightyear beating each other around with their abilities, laser beams, and one wicked oar hoping to win.
Players will form rumble-ready teams with legendary Disney1 and Pixar1 characters, who will battle it out in a stunning, never-before-seen virtual arena. From Wreck-It Ralph, Elsa, and Mickey Mouse to Frozone, Moana, and Buzz Lightyear, players will select their own hologram hero to combat in 3v3 bouts with friends and rivals in the quest to become the ultimate Disney champions.
Players in “Disney Melee Mania” are thrown into a virtual arena and given a choice of 12 champions from various Disney and Pixar classics, with additional characters being introduced regularly. Each champion will have their own unique action-ready design, complete with their own set of iconic moves and cosmetics that can be unlocked.
For a chance to win, players must score the most points possible — or defeat the opposing team as many times as they can — throughout five-minute battle arena battles brimming with battle arena action. They’ll take part in fast-paced multi-player conflicts that put each character’s distinct powers to the test in close-quarters combat, with numerous modes and challenges to put their skills to the test.
In this Apple-exclusive game, Disney is allowing some of its characters to brawl. They are :
- Wreck It Ralph
- Elsa Moana from Frozen
- Buzz Lightyear from Toy Story
- Mickey Mouse (dressed as a Sorcerer’s Apprentice)
- Frozone is a kind of ozone from The Incredibles
- Bong Bing Bong from Inside Out
- Jasmine from Aladdin
- Timon from The Lion King
- Maleficent, a fictional character from Sleeping Beauty
All the above are from Mighty Bear Games, the same people who delivered Butter Royale to Apple Arcade last year.
