According to a statement, the program will also incorporate machine learning technologies to improve production and establish a strong supply chain infrastructure.

“Through pioneering technology that enhances farm productivity and quality of fruits and vegetables, we are pleased about the role we can play in empowering Indian farmers and the agricultural community.”

“This is a comprehensive program that enables farmers to employ scientific crop planning based on soil and weather conditions and gives crop and disease management inputs,” said Sameer Khetarpal, Amazon India Director (Grocery, Food, and Health).

He went on to say that the company intends to “continuously improve the program’s effectiveness and create new modules that will assist Indian farmers and give customers with the freshest product possible.”

According to Amazon, 80% of its farmers have access to a personalised crop plan on their mobile app, as well as the ability to raise reactive crop-related issues for resolution as needed.

Amazon is building a supply chain infrastructure that is temperature-controlled. Amazon Retail staff use technology to evaluate and monitor quality at numerous stages once the commodity is collected from farmers and delivered to the processing centres. Fresh produce (fruits and vegetables) is sorted, graded, and packed in various sizes at the processing Centre before being sent to Amazon Fresh fulfilment locations near clients.

According to the announcement, Amazon Retail has created an ecosystem through a combination of agronomist-driven field treatments and a farm management tool to track the impact of those interventions as part of the agronomy service launch.
