Claim by a Reddit user

Reddit user u/ibreakphotos claims that Samsung is misleading their customers by providing fake moon pictures through their ads. He also claimed that moon picture which is obtained on Galaxy phones are fake and it is completely processed by AI by adding additional details which are actually not on the moon. He also said the original picture of the moon can be obtained by switching off the “scene optimizer” which is blurry as a mess.

He has taken example by creating overlaped two moons one above in his monitor and blured the details on the moon as shown below.

He capture the same overlaping moon from galaxy Ultra, and it was clearly visible that samsung has added details from the scratch to the moon with the help of AI. Samsung has made the borders soft and sharpned the details inside.

Samsung reply to the Fake Moon controversy

Samsung has recently announced an exciting new feature in its latest blog post, which claims to enhance the quality of photos of the Moon. The feature, known as Scene Optimizer, utilizes various techniques such as Super Resolution and multi-frame processing to combine over 10 images, reducing noise and improving clarity. Additionally, Samsung has combined optical and digital image stabilization to further minimize image blur. Overall, Samsung’s Scene Optimizer feature promises to revolutionize the way we capture photos of the Moon.

Samsung claims that the true sorcery of their technology lies in the “AI detail enhancement engine.” This advanced feature uses artificial intelligence to detect the presence of the Moon in the image, before implementing its unique algorithm to enhance the finer details of the picture.

Samsung describes that its Galaxy camera uses Multi-frame Processing to improve image quality, and it also utilizes Scene Optimizer’s AI detail enhancement engine based on deep learning to eliminate noise and enhance image details for an even better result.

Conclusion

Samsung’s moon photos are being called into question, with claims that the images are fake and that Samsung’s marketing is deceptive. According to critics, the level of detail in the photos is added by AI, not the optics. The moon is tidally locked to the Earth, making it easy for an AI model to add texture to an image. Samsung denies using image overlaying or texture effects, but some believe that the AI model used to process the images is essentially doing the same thing. If you turn off the “scene optimizer,” the actual photo of the moon is revealed, which some say is a blurry mess.
