10 Best Ways to Fix “Chrome’s Connection Isn’t Private”

The universal browser used by many users around the world sometimes gets an unknown warning indicating the connection is not private. It may spoil our entire work as we have to depend upon that particular website alone. Here are the 10 methods to resolve this issue.

Using public Wi-Fi

Do not use public Wi-Fi. HTTPS is now required for all websites, especially those that collect information from users. HTTP is used instead of HTTPS in public Wi-Fi hotspots such as airports, train stations, and cafes. Transmitting sensitive data such as passwords, banking information, and so on could render you open to security attacks in the future. Google Chrome may display an error stating that your connection is not private. Switch to a home network or Wi-Fi and restart your Google Chrome browser. If you absolutely must use public Wi-Fi, invest in a VPN.

Refreshing the tab/page

This may seem apparent, but it’s the simplest solution to repair your Google Chrome connection isn’t private. When your browser is unable to establish a connection to the server, it may display an error message. Reload the page if necessary.

Using Incognito mode

Switch to Incognito Mode. You can try loading the webpage again after enabling Incognito mode in Google Chrome. It has proven to be effective in a variety of situations. Select New Incognito Window from the three-dot menu in the upper right corner.

Clear browser cookies and cache

Your connection is not private in Google Chrome problem could be caused by an overabundance of cache files in your browser. Follow the instructions below to delete temporary files, cookies, and cache.

  1. Open Google Chrome and go to the top-right three-dot menu.
  2. Select Settings > Privacy & Security > Clear Browsing Data from the drop-down menu.
  3. Click the Clear data button at the bottom of the Advanced tab.

Disabling antivirus software

On Windows, disable third-party antivirus. Not private error in Google Chrome is one of the main causes hurting your connection. SSL scanning is included in some third-party antivirus products. In Google Chrome, it will obstruct the connection.

You can deactivate SSL scanning in third-party apps temporarily or turn off antivirus on the PC entirely.

Verify date and time

Verify the date and time on your computer. This may appear to be an unusual solution to the error “Your connection is not private in Google Chrome,” but bear with us. When checking the validity of an SSL certificate, Google Chrome uses the date and time on your computer.

Make sure the date and time settings on your computer are right. On Windows 10, open the Settings app (Windows + I keys) and navigate to Time & Language, Date & time, Set time automatically.

Turning off VPN

Turn off the VPN. A virtual private network (VPN) connection on your computer protects your online browsing behaviour. It masks your IP address and redirects your internet traffic to a company-owned server. Such security protocols may prohibit SSL certificates, resulting in the Chrome error “Your connection is not private.”

Try visiting the web again after disabling VPN in the Windows Settings (Windows + I keys) menu.

Update and Re install browser

If you are still facing the issue uninstall and reinstall the browser with its latest update

Use different browser

Just in case if your browser has a bug, it may be appropriate. In that case, try different browsers Brave, Firefox etc.

Helpline

Get in touch with the webmaster. The validity of an SSL certificate for a website is restricted. They are usually only active for a year. When an SSL certificate expires, Google Chrome will continue to display the error “Your connection is not private.”

If none of the previous methods works, you can contact the website owner/admin and request that the SSL certificate is renewed.
